How long should I wait after eating before doing yoga?

It is recommended to avoid eating a big meal at least 3 hours before you do yoga. It varies for each person but try to leave enough time after eating to fully digest the food, otherwise you may find your yoga practise (with twisting, forward folds and backbends), uncomfortable.

Also, the energy your body uses for digestion is diverted from your practice and you may feel tired or sluggish.

In pregnancy yoga you may wish to bring a snack with you - such as a cereal bar or juice drink in case your blood sugar levels drop.

In all cases make sure you are hydrated before a yoga class and bring water with you.
